Farewell, Michael Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009)
Last night, I made sure that I get home before 1:00 AM to be able to watch Michael Jackson's memorial. At around 1:00, the coverage started with his convoy making their way to Staple Center.
I wasn't able to finish the ceremony and vaguely remember the sequence, but there were remarkable performances.
Mariah Carey, who was emotional during the first part of "I'll be there", sang first for Michael. Stevie Wonder had tears in the thick of his short speech before singing "Never Dreamed You'd Leave in Summer". While Usher just burst into tears upon finishing the last few lines of "Gone Too Soon". And a very emotional brother, Jermaine Jackson, sang Michael's favorite song "Smile".
I was wrapped with emotions while watching it, especially when I heard people cheering, giving standing ovations. The place was just filled with an overwhelming gratitude for the King of Pop.
And at the end of his journey here on earth, the world paid respect to the greatest entertainer that ever lived. The unprecedented performer, Michael Jackson.
Farewell, Michael.
